5 Classic Brunch Cocktails

Grabbing a drink with friends isn’t limited to only the evening hours. What can be even better than going out at night is treating yourself to a nice brunch meal and a cocktail to go with it. While brunch has been a popular way to enjoy weekend mornings for decades, it’s gotten especially huge over the past few years. There are always new drink trends coming out, but when it comes to brunch, there are a few classic cocktails that have huge followings.

Here are five of the most classic brunch cocktails.

Mimosa

Mimosas are arguably the most popular brunch cocktail out there. You can’t beat enjoying refreshing orange juice early in your day, and champagne helps make this feel much more special. Mimosas have been popular for years, and it’s easy to see why. Throwing together a classic mimosa only takes orange juice and champagne, but you could always swap out orange juice for another citrus juice or add extras. This delicious drink is sure to go perfectly with anything you order for brunch. If you want to enjoy a classic brunch meal, you need this bubbly cocktail.

Bloody Mary

While many people want their drink to be sweet or citrusy, there are plenty who would rather opt for a savory drink at brunch. Bloody Marys have likely been around for over a century and have been a brunch staple since they were first created. Typically made with tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, spices, and seasoning, and often served with pickled vegetables and other toppings, Bloody Marys come loaded with a lot of flavor. Not only are these drinks tasty, but many believe they can help cure hangovers, making them a favorite of many brunch-goers who were out late the night before.

Espresso Martini

While the espresso martini was a popular drink in the ‘80s and ‘90s, it’s recently gained a huge amount of attention. Espresso martinis are made using espresso, coffee liqueur, and vodka and are often topped off with coffee beans for a garnish. You can drink espresso martinis any time of day, but thanks to the espresso and coffee liquor, these are perfect for giving you some caffeine before starting your day. If you’re a big coffee drinker, this trendy drink is something you must try.

Bellini

Created in either the 1930s or 1940s in Venice, Italy, by Giuseppe Cipriani of the famous Harry’s Bar, bellinis are a favorite drink of many. Made with Prosecco and peach puree, bellinis are a refreshing cocktail similar to mimosas. This light, fruity, sparkling cocktail is the perfect way to begin your day. The drink was named after 15th-century Venetian artist Giovanni Bellini, who had paintings featuring the pinky peach color of the drink.

Mint Julep

What’s better than something minty fresh in the morning? While mint juleps are most frequently associated with the Kentucky Derby, many people also enjoy ordering them for brunch. Made with bourbon, mint leaves, sugar, and water, mint juleps have been around for several hundred years, and were often used medically when they were first created. Mint juleps have been a morning drink for much longer than many might realize. In addition to being prescribed by doctors for illnesses, drinks similar to mint juleps were referenced throughout the 1800s as being an early morning drink.
